Yo what's up! My name is Mike and behind this vision for The Barrens is a deeply personal journey. I bought this 21 acre property in 2022 at age 29, knowing I wanted to build something meaningful, initially for family and friends, then for a wider community drawn together by the camaraderie of action sports and the outdoors.
To make that first step possible, I spent 11 months in 2021 working aboard an oceanographic research vessel as a merchant mariner, away from home, family and friends. Working 10 hour days without a day off for 6 months, I saved what I needed for the down payment. Every acre, trail cut, and rock moved since then has been shaped by hand and rooted in a lifelong passion for skateboarding, snowboarding, growing food, and playing in the dirt.
What began as a goal to grow my own food, share the surplus with the local community, and build a creative brand has evolved into The Barrens: a place to share this land, the trails, and the high-energy culture of the outdoors with like minded people.
